How to Apply a JAMS License
JAMS licenses are sent out as XML files. To apply a JAMS license, copy the license key file(s) into the
C:\Program Files\MVPSI\JAMS\Scheduler directory. No other actions should be necessary.
If a license properly placed in the
C:\Program Files\MVPSI\JAMS\Scheduler directory is not recognized, the license file may be blocked by Windows' file blocking feature. To check the status of, and unblock files:
- Right click on the license file, then select Properties from the drop-down list
- In the Properties dialog, ensure the General tab is selected.
- If an Unblock button exists in the lower right hand corner of the dialog, the file is blocked.
If no Unblock button is visible, the file is not blocked.
- Click Unblock, then click OK or Apply to save the changes.
- If multiple license files must be used, repeat steps 1-4 for each license file.
If the license file is not recognized and is not blocked, restart the JAMS Scheduler Service:
- Close the JAMS Client.
- Open Windows Services on the JAMS Server.
- Restart the JAMS Scheduler Service.
- Open the JAMS Client. The license should be recognized. If problems persist, contact support.
How to check the status of the JAMS License
License information is available through the JAMS GUI. To check the status of the JAMS license, follow the steps outlined below.
- In the JAMS Client, select the appropriate server. Users with a single server may skip this step.
- Click on the About button on the ribbon bar, then select JAMS Server from the drop-down list.
- From the About JAMS Server dialog that appears, select the Status tab.
The Status tab shows the active license ID number, license validity, Agent and Job limits, the support date, and the expiration date. If a failover is configured, additional information about the failover environment will be shown.
The License ID is the identification number for the license.
The Agent Limit is the number of available Agents for the environment. The Current Count is the number of Agents consumed out of the total available Agents. Agents are consumed when the Agent is first connected, often through the use of the initial Job run on the Agent. Note that Jobs run on Agents only consume Jobs. E.g. If a site is licensed for a single Agent and 200 Jobs per day, all 200 of those jobs could be run on the one Agent.
The Job Limit is the number of Jobs that can run daily in the given environment. The Current Count is the number of Jobs that have been run on the given day. The license shown in the image above can run an unrestricted number of daily Jobs.
The Expiration Date is the date the JAMS license will expire. With an expired license, JAMS will cease to function. If a valid temporary license and full license exist in the
C:\Program Files\MVPSI\JAMS\Scheduler directory, JAMS may show the expiration date of the temporary license. When a temporary license expires, JAMS will automatically point to the new license, so long as that license was properly applied.
If an organization chooses not to renew JAMS, the Support Date is when that organization's access to the JAMS Support Team is terminated. The license for the given environment expires 60 days after the support date, by default.

Is a new license needed to upgrade JAMS?
A new license is not required when upgrading JAMS in-place. E.g. upgrading from JAMS V7.0.1287 to V7.0.1294 would not require a new license.
Is a new license needed to move the JAMS Scheduler?

How can JAMS be pointed from the temporary license to the full license?
When the temporary license expires, JAMS will automatically use the permanent license properly applied in the environment, as specified in the How to Apply a JAMS License section of this article. To force JAMS to point to the full license before the temporary license expires, users can remove the temporary license from the
C:\Program Files\MVPSI\JAMS\Scheduler directory, or change the file extension on the temporary license.
How do I increase the Agent limit, Job limit, or license additional servers?
